Sony HC3 hi-def camcorder - the wave of the future at lower prices!

The Bottom Line: Definitely highly recommended. Finally, a hi-def camcorder that is portable and under $1500. While not cheap, I consider this a great value considering what you get.

A great entry level HD camcorder

The Bottom Line: Unless you see cheaper HDV product by this time, get this. It won't make it easier to wake up in the morning, but you'll be happy for weeks.
Review: Due to lack of reliable reviews, I bought this camcorder based on specs alone. As such, I was half expecting to be disappointed.

Overall, it has performed surprisingly well, and I have not been disappointed.

Black screen of death after 1 year

Review: I got the "black screen of death" a month or two after the warranty expired. This is a problem in which newly filmed videos and pictures are 100% black but the camera can still play back previously filmed videos. Sony refused to extend the warranty...
