WR200 Good Purchase

I was initially hesitant to purchase a WRV200 wireless/VPN router based on the reviews that I have seen.

I initially updgraded the WRV200 router to the version 1.0.32.2 of the firmware. I also downloaded the latest QuickVPN Client 1.1 which gave "Server not Responding" messages although still giving me access to the remotely mapped drives. I then downloaded Beta QuickVPN Client 1.1.2 and have not seen any problems with this version of the QuickVPN Client.

I have connected to the VPN for many hours with no real problems. I can map drives across the VPN using an IP address. I have not tried using the LMHOSTS file yet. At work we are required to use LMHOSTS to access a Federal Government VPN. So I don't consider NETBIOS traffic not passing through the router as a problem like others do.

I had noticed several complaints about having the Windows firewall disabled on both the VPN Client and file server behind the WRV200. I changed the scope (subnet and netmask) of file sharing option under windows firewall configuration to include the VPN lan subnet and also include the subnet and netmask of the home lan. (192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0,192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0)
Also I had to download a windows firewall hotfix on the machine with the quickVPN client to allow pings to WRV200. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889527/en-us I have windows firewall enabled on both the VPN Client and file server behind the WRV200 and have had no problems with the VPN.

Dynamic DNS (dyndns.com) works better than I imagined. With the WRV200 you don't even need to download their client software it is already built in to the WRV200.

I still have a problem with the router losing a generated certificate when it has been rebooted. Also I still can't get QuickVPN to recognize the the Cisco "self signed" certificate generated by the WRV200.

I have had no problems with the wireless connections and setup.
