Kenny Chesney
Greatest Hits

About the Artist

Kenny didn’t start off to be a musician in fact he liked to listen to rock style music. Until he was driving home from East Tennessee State where he was earning his marketing degree. Then on the radio he heard a song sung by Merle Haggard “That's The Way Love Goes” and that is when he fell in love with country, he is more in line with new-traditionalists. He continued school and practiced up to seven hours a day and even began playing around campus. After graduation he moved to Nashville and landed a writing contract with Acuff-Rose and that led to Capricorn Records. By late 1993 he landed his first debut My Wildest Dreams. Even for being 34 he is really really cute, well beyond cute, how’s FINE. Yes fine is a very good word.

He even joined Alan Jackson, Lonestar, Willie Nelson, and Trace Adkins for Sharp Dressed Men: A Tribute To ZZ Top Since his debut in 1993 he has written seven CD’s including most of my favorites, like Me & You. I fell in love with his voice long before I knew who he was, or even the names of the songs. Back when I was still pretending not to like Country for fear of Marine Corp ridicule. I have lots of favorite artists and even more songs. Can’t think of a time that I didn’t like country, and even though you may not like it, you really can appreciate their messages. His songs are not the old boo hoo songs, they are mostly upbeat and cheerful and very graceful. Want more? http://www.kchesney.com.

My Feelings of This CD

I Love It. Can I leave it at that? No? Didn’t think so.
First off as any Greatest Hits goes, if you have all the CD’s, that Greatest Hits cover, you would not to need buy it. But that would defeat the purpose of making it, so in order to sell it, they have to add a few new ones. And of course these new ones introduced are REALLY good. So I was one of millions set out to find this and purchase it so I could listen to the new songs when I wanted to. Probably the goofiest (yet still good) song is She Thinks My Tractors Sexy. Now probably from a very modest guys perspective he might (far stretch I may add) think that the gal thinks his car is sexy but a tractor? Did he even stop to think that maybe, just maybe, she thinks HE’s sexy? Maybe she wants to be with him? The tractor is an excuse for her to be alone with him in small quarters. (Now I am (of course) basing all this on what I would be thinking if I were her riding in a tractor with HIM.) All in all I love each and every song. I have my moods where there might be one or two to skip at that time, but I usually listen to all of them in order. If you don’t have any of his CD’s yet, buy this one first.

Tracks

I Lost It (3:54)
Not Previously Released
A true love song Kenny style. All about the jitters of proposing and he lost it when she smiled. Real love, that is hard core to the soul. Has a really good dancing beat to it yet I guess it could pass for a slow dance .

Don‘t Happen Twice (3:23)
Not Previously Released
Song is upbeat and you will tap your feet along, or your fingers on the windowsill of the car like I do. All about the first love and first kiss and how you remember every single detail. Anyways you can only have your first kiss or first love, once.

The Tin Man (3:37)
All I Need To Know
Being a Tin Man he wouldn‘t have to feel his heart break. Couldn‘t we all have used this once or more in our lives. I know I could have. One of his “boo-hoo” songs but it is really good and will make it’s mark with anyone who has ever had a broken heart.

Fall In Love (2:37)
All I Need To Know
Seeing someone getting married just makes some want to fall in love, even seeing old couples still ‘in love’ makes you want to fall in love. This song just might hit women more then men. (if you follow the standard man stereo-type) It is one of his shorter songs and it is so upbeat and cheerful.

All I Need To Know (3:09)
All I Need To Know
Never heard the piano and guitar sound so good together. All you need to know on a horrible day that your love is home waiting for you. Love can make any day brighter, special. All I need To Know would be a great song for country weddings or at least where the bride/groom like country music. I know if Jeff and I were planning a wedding there would be a lot of heavy metal, rock and county blended together, and this would be one I would add to the list. Just makes me want to renew our vows.

For The First Time (3:38)
Not Previously Released
Not one of my most favorite songs but I still like it. The girl moved on and is married and doing the PTA and Sunday school thing. But during High School there was just the two of them. They will forever share ‘their first time’, and hope fully your first time wasn’t behind the bleachers.

Me And You (3:39)
All I Need To Know
One of the first songs that I fell in love with. The one and only time Jeff and I ‘danced’ it was with this song. A major love song that is so beautiful and respectful. A flowing beat that most will enjoy. When Kenny sings his ‘love songs’ you can really place yourself in the shoes. They must hit a mark with anyone who has ever fallen and been in love.

Back Where I Come From (4:16)
Me and You
(This song was recorded live in concert in Dallas). All about growing up in the country. Back where things were simple, and where he is proud to come from. The fiddle does an awesome job and the steel guitar plays in harmony with the fiddle. Not a fan of (live) songs, sometimes the cheers and singing along bugs me. I don‘t mind when I am at the concert, but I paid to hear Kenny sing not folks in a concert.

When I Close My Eyes (3:30)
Me and You
Soft, slow and oh so tender. Where she is always on his mind. When the eyes are closed that love is there with you. Everyone really in love can so relate to and with this song. The strong steady beat makes it even better. Time and space never parts love. Another favorite of mine.

She‘s Got It All (3:24)
I Will Stand
Strong, steady upbeat song. Not the standard for love songs, but this begins another chapter of love song styles. All about how this one lucky woman has his heart and soul. Just what he has been dreaming of.

That’s Why I’m Here (4:03)
I Will Stand
Some times you just have a hard time letting go. When you see your mistakes you try to fix others. Especially when it comes to alcoholics (okay I am sticking with what the song is about) and what they have lost. They all have the same story, how they have lost all the simple things, and some times alcohol takes so much more. Sometimes those who have gone thru it who really try to save those, from heading down the same lonely road.

How Forever Feels (3:08)
Everywhere We Go
Steady beat will get your toes or fingers tapping, heck maybe even both. I don‘t really relate to the song, I enjoy the tune carried but mostly the music of it.

You Had Me From Hello (3:50)
Everywhere We Go
Gosh I love this song. Really hits home for Jeff and I. No matter the genre

She’s Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy (4:07)
Everywhere We Go
This is one song I analyzed over and over. Trying to see the ‘real’ underline meaning. Could it be face value or?

What I Need To Do (4:04)
Everywhere We Go
A very laid back, mellow tune. Soft and slow. About a break up and how he just wants to go back home and fix their relationship. But he just keeps driving on. Sometimes we all need to take a drive and clear our heads and even though this is a breaking up song it is still very good.

Baptism Duet with Randy Travis (4:15)
Everywhere We Go
This song has such a beautiful message of a grown man finding the Lord. At his baptism he is dunked in the East Tennessee River, the old man and his lies are washed away. The new man comes out clean and revived and felt like a newborn baby held in the arms of the Lord. Randy Travis sings a duet, first Kenny, then Randy then them together.

Because Of Your Love (4:16)
Not Previously Released
Anything he wants to dream, and the man he is, is because of her love. Sometimes we feel we are a stronger person because we are loved. A very up beat love song and though it is good, this song seems to be out of place with the other songs in the CD. Still worth listening too.

Production Crew & Contributing Artists

Because this is a Greatest Hits the songs are all produced and owned by different folks. So many different band members as well. Compilation produced by Buddy Cannon, Norro Wilson and Kenny Chesney in Nashville Tennessee. Fall In Love was a remixed version. B.J. Lowry, T. Hensley, and D. Potter played some the different guitars and L. Paxon was in charge of bass. Some fiddle players were S. Marshall, M. Rhodes and L. Paxon. You have to admire folks who can successfully play more than one instrument like L. Paxon. And there are so many more that contributed to the songs in this CD. Within their own album is a better recognition of the musical talents. Shannon Flanagan did a wonderful job pulling the entire CD together. Kenny does have a 2 page thank you note to all those who helped him get to the level where is today and to be able to put together a Greatest Hits album.
