If you are looking for eye popping colors when you are highlighting text then Zebra has a nice ten color set for you. The Zazzle Brights neon highlighters have some of the best colors around, come packaged in a nice plastic carrying case and can be used on a variety of paper without smearing or smudging. I received this ten pack about a year ago and really liked the way that they wrote on different types of paper; why did it take me a year to review them? You can thank a hard drive failure and a rather unorganized home office for that. I have used these off and on for the past year and really like the color assortment that it has, they way that they write and that I am not limited to the usual colors that you get with other highlighters. They are a great choice if you want to use different colors for different things or have kids that are always bickering over who gets the 'cool' highlighter for school.
Zebra Zazzle Brights Ten Color Highlighter Set
When Zebra says that these are 'brights' they really mean it; the colors are all bold and intense so if you need to highlight something so that no one will ever be able to miss it on a page, these are the ones to use. They are a standard size, a nice find when almost every other highlighter seems to come in jumbo or mega size. The caps don't come off all that easily and trust me, that is a good thing. Have you ever reached into a backpack to feel around for something and ended up with highlighter ink all over your hand? If it's yellow it's not that bad but get a blue or green all over you and people do tend to give you funny looks. The ink is not permanent but you will have your work cut out for you if you get it on your skin.
These can be used on pretty much any type of paper; textured, copy, bond or even envelopes. Glossy or slick surfaces won't hold the ink so you can and will experience some smudging. One way around that is to put some clear tape over it to protect it. Are they noisy? For the most part, no. There is a chisel to the tip so you can rotate it to vary the thickness of the line but these should be used for going over one line of text at a time. If you need to cover more area then go with one of the previously mentioned mega, jumbo or super sized highlighters.
If you try these out and they are a bit too bold for you, Zebra also makes a really nice five pack of Zazzle highlighters. These are not Zazzle Brights, just regular Zazzle [the colors include blue, green, yellow, pink and purple]. I was concerned about these not meeting the ASTM D-4236 requirements since there was no mention of it on the individual markers but when I called Zebra, I was told that they were indeed non-toxic. There's no smell or odor to them [at least none that I could pick up on] so using these in a confined area isnt going to make you want to pass out.
Color Assortment
The ten colors in this set are nice, really nice. These are first and foremost highlighters so they arent going to perform like regular markers will; simply put, you aren't going to be able to blend them. The colors include orange, light orange, violet [purple], pink, green, light green, yellow, blue, light blue and red. These are neon colors so they are very loud and bright; the yellow and light green are the ones that really stand out as being the boldest of the bunch.
Price
I received this set as a gift so I had to go online to look for prices; most places were selling this for eight to ten dollars which isn't bad for the ten colors that you get, the quality of the ink and their overall lifespan. Knowing how well these perform, if I were looking to purchase another set I wouldnt have a problem forking out something in that price range for this set. So far I haven't seen them sold in a three or five color pack so you are either stuck buying them individually or in the ten count / ten color package. That doesnt mean that there aren't three or five packs out there, I just haven't seen them or come across them in stores.
The Bottom Line
The last time I checked these were still being made in good old Edison, New Jersey so you gotta love a company that still believes in keeping their business based in the United States [although the parent company is based in Tokyo]. The Zazzle Brights write well, have a nice ink flow and the colors remain on the page and don't fade. The plastic case that comes with the set is nice to keep them grouped together but it isn't going to last all that long if you are taking them with you to work or kids are using them for school. Zebra is a great company to deal with if you ever have any issues with their products; they have an extensive selection of products ranging from pens and markers to correction products and refills.
As always, thanks for the visit
