Author's Review
I read dozens of magazines each month so it only makes sense that I would eventually introduce my offspring to the joys of periodicals. One good starting point is Wild Animal Baby, a small magazine for the small ones in the household.
Basic Contents of This Magazine:
Wild Animal Baby is issued ten times per year. Its 22 pages include sections such as:
Animal Crackers
Numbers
What do You Say?
I Can
Animal Opposites
Underground Animals
In a Cave
Out and About
Alphabet
Wild Animal Baby varies with its monthly sections, but each issue can be counted on to include the majority of the sections listed above.
Magazine Web Page/Pricing:
Wild Animal Baby doesn't have a web site of its own. It is published by the National Wildlife Federation and more information can be found by visiting the National Wildlife Federation web site, nwf.com. The magazine sells for a somewhat high base price of $26 per year, but better deals can be found in various internet web sites.
Final Thoughts:
Wild Animal Baby is a publication intended for children between he ages of twelve and 48 months. It is a magazine about animals, with a special focus on the small babies of many different species of animals.
The National Wildlife Federation publishes Wild Animal Baby and they make a special point to educate youngsters on the different species of animals that exist on this great planet. Wild Animal Baby opens up with four pages that feature a specific animal in its natural habitat. It then continues with different features about animals and their young, educating children on the different animals that exist, how they are alike, how they are different, how they find food, etc.
Wild Animal Baby is all about education and learning, but not necessarily just about animals. Some of the monthly sections include exercises in counting, memorization of the alphabet, recognition of opposite traits in specific animals, and more. There is often a game or two in each issue as well, and each issue ends with a section titled "Out and About", which includes a brief story, complete with illustrations that are drawn/painted, making them look like those from a typical children's book.
One of the many great qualities of Wild Animal Baby is that it can be used to make lesson plans for youngsters. Parents can create lessons that focus on the different animals and their characteristics. Kids can learn about a variety of animals, study the alphabet, count the number of animals on a page, play an animal find game, and more.
Overall, Wild Animal Baby is an excellent choice of introductory reading material for children in the targeted age group. It's a short magazine, yes. But it is just right for young toddlers between the ages of one and four with just enough length and special features to hold a child's attention and keep them interested.
