Author's Review
I bought this washer despite the negative reviews, because EVERY washer has a bunch of negative reviews. We've been happy with this machine: it cleans our clothes, holds a LOT of them, and spins them nearly dry. It uses little water and even less detergent, and seems pretty quiet so far. The controls are straight-forward, but you can fine-tune any aspect of the wash that you'd like.
Many reviewers complained about this washer wadding up and wrinkling their clothes. If you tell it to, it'll spin your clothes nearly dry at 1000 RPM; good for towels and jeans, but maybe not best for your dress shirts. If you don't want that, don't tell the machine to do it! There are plenty of delicate options available, and used with a bit of sense, they do a fine job.
I originally wanted a front-loader, but after talking to repair people was convinced that they don't last as long, and can have seal and bearing problems. This washer seems to most of the advantages of a front-loader (maybe uses just a little more water), without as much potential for disaster. I especially like the idea of direct-drive. The fewer moving parts in the drive train, the better.
I'd recommend this machine to anyone in the market for a high-end washing machine.
