Popcorn, Easy, Fast, and There!
Date of Review: Jan 27, 2000
I received my West Bend Stir Crazy popcorn popper several years ago as a gift and not only is it still working as well as new, it has been abused and is still working as well as new.
I don't put butter on my popcorn, but this machine has the butter well for those that do. It is so simple, you can go start the video rather than hover over the machine. You put in the oil and popcorn and walk away. It's very fast and I've noticed very few unpopped kernels.
Lately, I've been experimenting with various condiments with popcorn. After visiting a festival, I was hooked on "kettle corn" (aka sweet corn). I found the recipe and it stated I needed to add sugar and salt while the popcorn was popping. I was concerned this would damage the non-stick coating. I emailed WestBend and they quickly responded that it would be fine to do this. Because of the stirring mechanism, this took the work out of kettle corn as well.
I would recommend any popcorn fanatics to try this recipe. It's so easy and I'm sure terribly fattening, but worth it. All you do is add 3 tablespoons of sugar, about 1/2 a teaspoon of salt, oil to coat approximately 1/2 to 3/4 cup of unpopped kernels. If you don't have the stir crazy, just keep the pan you're using moving even moreso than when you pop regular popcorn.
You'll get a big bowl of sticky, sweet, and only slightly salty kettle corn. If you like, you can add a bit more sugar and salt after you've poured it into the bowl or bag (however you eat it). Enjoy!
