Product Review

Flood of memories

Pros:  Great descriptions of growing up in the fifties

Cons:  None

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

Doris Kearns Goodwin first got my attention on the Ken Burns series on baseball. You could tell she truly loved baseball and the story she told in the series and in this book about keeping boxscores of the Dodgers games so she could go over them with her dad when he got home really touched my heart.
One of the highlights of the book is her description of the Dodgers winning World Series in 1955. After reading her account of the celebration in the streets of Brooklyn it really brought home to me how much it meant to the fans to finally win after so many years of saying wait till next year. Especially liked her recalling how her mother who was so sick felt that one night she was back in her twenties because she was so caught up in the celebration.
She describes what it felt like when the Dodgers moved to California leaving the fans without a team and the sadness the fans felt.
This is the fastest reading book I have ever read and it definitely keeps your interest throughout.
Anyone that likes baseball and 50's nostalgia will definitely like this book.
