Vogue needs a makeover

Date of Review: Dec 31, 1999

The only valuable thing about Vogue is the ADS. Vogue has moved away from fashion and toward a dull, middle-class, lefty politics that is nauseating. Lots of reviews of "woman as victim" novels, mostly written by pals of the staff or even former or current staff members. Horrible Politically Correct preaching by editor Anna Wintour and friends. One of her editorials rambled on incoherently about "racism and NYC cabbies." Lots of fawning and gushing and mythologizing about Hil Clinton. Anna certainly doesn't corner the market on high intelligence. Write about what you KNOW, Anna!!! Fashion, fashion, fashion!!!! Drop the pc movie reviews, the tract-home art criticism, the housewife-journalist feminism, and give us a great look at the fashion industry. Stop pretending to be holier-than-thou. For heaven's sake, fashion magazines shamelessly promote product. So give us the product, or stop pretending and just hand the pages over to the advertisers with their terrific copy and photography. Can we please have a fashion magazine from NYC that does NOT preach left-wing politics and promote all-stars like the Clintons and Kennedys? We don't need another NY Times. Give the soccer moms some glamour and beauty.
