Peace of mind to let parents sleep well, too!
Pros:
provides great peace of mind for parents, not much static
Cons:
price, doesn't always work right (see review), doesn't work in pack-n-plays
The Bottom Line:
Great product for peace of mind that baby is still breathing. A few quirks and flaws, but still worth it to us!

Author's Review
This is one of the best baby products we have bought for our baby. They can be expensive, but I found mine on clearance at WalMart for $37. It can be used as a simple sound monitor (the Sound Only option) or a sound and movement/breathing monitor (Sound and Movement option.) However, if you don't want to hear the annoying tic each time your baby moves or breathes, there is a third setting for turning the tic off, though your baby's movement is still being monitored and the alarm will sound should it stop for twenty seconds.
There is a pad about the size of a mouse pad that goes under your crib mattress and plugs into the main unit. You will need a solid crib support under the mattress to use this correctly, or a piece of masonite to put it on if you do not have a solid mattress support. For this reason, the movement sensor does not work in pack-n-plays. The sensitivity for motion pick up is adjustable.
We have had ours on the sound and movement setting since our baby was a newborn. The movement alarm has only gone off once since we've had it, but the baby had squirmed to the edge of the crib and for some reason it didn't pick up her breathing, though she was fine. Every other time she has moved to the corners of the crib, this continues to work. The green flashing light on the main unit that indicates breathing is reassuring to peek at when you don't want to disturb your sleeping baby.
The only disturbing thing about this is that once we were on vacation for several days and I must have forgotten to shut it off. When we came back, the green "breathing" light was flashing intermittently, and the alarm was NOT sounding. There was no fan or movement of any kind in the room while we were away. Another time, I took my daughter out of the crib and forgot to shut it off, and the alarm sounded, but about two hours later. I'm not pleased about that at all, but nonetheless I still feel better about using this monitor than not.
