Do violent video games desensitized kids?

by   sysrq ,   Mar 28, 2000

Pros:  The game is cool and fine

Cons:  You have to be able to tell the difference between real and fake

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

The reason I bought QuakeII was because my friend let me play it on his computer and I thought it was the best game ever. After playing the game I realized that there was a lot of blood and gore. Since we were playing with a voodoo 3 it looked real. Real enough for a disturbed kid to not be able to justify the difference between real and fake violence.

I have finally come to a conclusion about the violence in video games. The conclusion that I came to was Yes in fact the violence in video games does affect and desensitized kids. The catch though is I believe that the child that does go on a shooting rampage in school like at Columbine High School is already disturbed before the game influence the kid.

The reason I have came to this bold statement was when Eric Harris was done with shooting everyone he then killed himself. That indicates right there that he as a human being was unstable.

So what am I saying that we as teens shouldn't play these game? No they are ok as long as you can tell the difference between real and fake. If you see yourself acting like QuakeII by fighting your sibling or friends as if you were playing QuakeII, or can't seem to not stop playing it you might want to get help. Try not playing it for 3 to 4 days and see what happens. You might surprise yourself.
