One of my all-time favorites

I have loved this movie for years, and don't expect to outgrow it anytime soon.

On the one hand, it's one of the funniest movies I know - if you have the right sense of humor. It's full of great non-sequiturs and absurdist one-liners. To wit: "Red usually means 'caution'. Or 'beef' on bullion cubes."

On the other hand, it's a sweet story of someone (Robin Williams as Leslie Zevo) who comes of age a bit late, but still gets it right.

On yet another hand, it's a lucid allegory of the ageless struggle between those who value love, freedom, and whimsy and those who choose fear, conformity, and humorless greed. Year after year, I find it more and more pertinent to the times we live in.

Robin Williams and Joan Cusack are brilliant and hilarious in roles I don't think anyone else could do so well, and Michael Gambon is positively over the top as Leslie's insane uncle. Even LL Cool J (gasp!) turns in a decent performance (though I wouldn't call it stellar).

My recommendation: Abandon your expectations of this movie before you watch it, including anything I've told you here. Enjoy!
