Author's Review

Let me start off by saying I have never owned a vehicle other than a Toyota. That said there are other cars and trucks out there I like and
I have considered other truck/car makes.

I bought a lightly used 2003 Double-Cab Tacoma 4x4 TRD Limited. It had about 17,000 miles on it and was in great shape. I now have almost 45,000 miles on it. I have had no issues mechanically with it other than a leaky power steering pump which was promptly replace at no charge by my local dealer. The Double Cab model for 2003 was only available with an automatic transmission that I like but I would prefer to have a standard transmission. Power is good but don't expect to haul or tow much. Jet-Ski's or maybe an ATV are about it. Maybe a small boat too. Then again if you do much heavy hauling I doubt one would even consider the Double Cab. Also, this one has the smaller bed but it hasn't really bothered me yet. I'm not sure but i doubt you could get something like a full size 4x4 ATV in the back. A motor cycle probably would fit with the tailgate down though.

I also find this truck to be comfortable too. The front seats are comfortable enough for me on short and long distance trips. I have had passengers in the rear seats and they are apparently comfy but I haven't taken any road-trips with people in the rear so I can't comment on the comfort level for the rear seats on a long distance trip.

As far as off-road performane this thing rocks for a stock vehicle. With the TRD package you get a locking rear-differential that makes a world of difference. I have taken this truck on some great trails in the high country of Colorado with no let-downs. I am very pleased with the performance thus far. **Note** I have added a 1.5" leveling kit to the front suspension and 32" tires to this truck. Otherwise it is stock from the factory. (I have owned other Toyota's including one 1985 4Runner that had 37" tires and locked front and rear with winches and custom bumbers so I feel I can say this with some experience backing my words) I would say that beside the Jeep Wrangler/Rubicon this is next best offroad performer you can buy in stock form. Not including exotics like Land Rover's Defender 90 though. Also, there is an endless amount of after market offroad upgrades you can buy. Toyota's are very popular in this market for upgrades and there are many compainies out there that make tons of parts for Toyota's.

For me the combination of offroad performance, reliability, looks, and resale make for an awesome truck. I will be driving this truck for years to come.
