Author's Review

The Tacoma Quad Cab offers the best of both worlds. You can haul around your buddies or pickup a load of top soil for the yard. Everybody knows about Toyota's reliability so I won't sped much time on that. So far we have logged 13,000 miles on our Tacoma and have only one complaint. The ride of the Tacoma is a little rough on roads plagued by potholes. Although this is expected as the Tacoma has 4 wheel drive suspension on it. One other small and I mean small complaint is the location of the clock. Toyota needs to get with the times and put the clock on the stereo where it belongs. Other than that there is little I don't like about the truck. If you intend on hauling large loads or towing trailers you'd better opt for the V6 engine. The in-line 4 (2.7L) engine is fine for bee bopping around town and picking up the usual loads (groceries, yard supplies) but if you intend to pull a 20' trailer, you'll need the extra power of the V6. Too bad there's no 5 speed, that could have helped. Pricing can be on the stiff side for the Toyota, they have a good product and they know it. Styling is great, you get a big truck look in a small truck. Interior room is better than you'd expect. The back seat has more room than my sisters Jetta. The dashboard is rather bland but this is a truck so that's to be expected. Toyota still uses the pull type emergency brake which is ok, but in most other trucks you'll see the pedal. The slide out visor extensions are a nice feature. Getting in and out of the back seat can be tricky, no grab bar as on the front entry. What's up with that? Shorties will need help. The back seats fold down (I use to wonder why that's important) to a hard plastic back, great for loading stuff thats dirty but cannot get wet. The one piece sliding rear window is much better than the two piece sliding window that was on my old Ranger. Additionally the locking clip for the rear window is surprisingly good. I guess Toyota figured out that using a junky clip would mean frequent replacement. In case you ever get thirsty, don't worry. This truck has 6, yep 6 cup holders! Craftsmanship/Fit are excellent as usual on the Tacoma. The doors close with a strong thud similar to that of a larger truck. Vision is good however I'd recommend getting one of those bubble mirrors to stick on the side mirrors. I almost squished a MG yesterday (didn't see him in the mirror).
