Author's Review
My wife previously owned a Pontiac Fiero. Ever since, she's been wanting a little sports car again. On her short list were the Honda Del Sol, Mazda Miata, and BMW Z3. We purchased a Chrysler Sebring in 1996 that we thoroughly enjoyed. But we wanted to inject a little more fun in our driving experience. So, I thought a PT Cruiser was the answer. But we saw a MR2, and fell immediately in love. After five short weeks, we traded in our PT, and we couldn't be happier. Where the PT was practical, the MR2 is just a crazy fun car to own and drive.
In some professional reviews, the MR2 is knocked for its lack of power, but we've never had a problem accelerating from a stop, passing other cars, or performing any other maneuver. It has plenty of zip, and in fact it is difficult to drive slowly. The car just wants to move.
Yes, the lack of storage space is a concern, but this should not be a surprise to prospective buyers.
Yes it lacks cruise control. But thus far, it hasn't been missed.
The black interior gets hot when parked with the top down, so you may want to consider the yellow or red interiors.
Our buying experience was just great. We would never had thought that we could feel good about paying over MSRP for a car, but for this one, we sure did.
