Simply put... the best.
Pros:
It's solid. Reliable. Stylish. Rugged. Inspires envy of those who have lesser SUV's.
Cons:
The gas tank really is too small. Underpowered for regular HWY driving (4-cylinder).
The Bottom Line:
Get one. It's the best, most versatile vehicle I've ever owned.

Author's Review
I've had my 2000 4-runner for 2 years, have put 40,000 completely trouble free miles on it (I just rolled 100,000 miles), and can't imagine driving anything else. I have the base 4x4, 4-cylinder model, with manual transmission, and highly recommend it. I know there are a lot of complaints about the gas-milage, but my 4-cylinder gets 20 mpg on the highway (about 16mpg in the city). If you want better mileage, try a camry wagon, that might be better suited to you. The price you pay for this economy is sluggishness during highway driving. In the City, I don't find it to be a problem. The 4X4 systems are amazing, getting me through 20 inches of snow as if it were dry pavement. Im 6'6 and although I dont fit in the models with a sunroof, my basic model with no sunroof provides plenty of headroom. Seats are narrow and a bit uncomfortable for extended driving, but plenty of leg room in back, even behind me with my seat all the way back. I've used this truck to tow, go off road, shuttle 5 people around, move several friends (amazing what you can fit in it with the seats down), and is still styled well enough that you don't have to be shy about using valet at a nice restaurant. This is an amazingly versitle car. Also, the handling.... there are a few complaint about this on other reviews.... it IS a truck, compared to others, the ride and handling are absolutely superior. If you are in the market for a pre-owned SUV, drive everything else first, then go buy a 4-runner, it does not disappoint.
