Entry level for sure
Date of Review: Dec 19, 2006
The Bottom Line: For anyone who wants to give 5.1 a try.. you will be amazed for this price.
The RCA RT2760 system is what is called a HTIB, or "Home Theater in a Box". Let's look at what is in the "box"
Speakers (4ohm)
2 x Front Speakers
1 x Center Speakers
2 x Rear Speakers
1 x Subwoofer
Receiver:
720 watts total system power
240W (RMS) Front Speaker(s)
120W (RMS) Center Speaker
240W (RMS) Rear Speaker(s)
120W (RMS) Subwoofer
Ok.. I started with the typical review... that would go on
and on about the technical stuff...
What you really want to know is how it sounds.
For a $149 dollar system... you will definately get a
"you think you are in the theater" surround system.
This was my first ever 5.1 setup.
I was actually amazed --- how such tiny speakers could extend the sound field so far beyond the speakers.
Watching a dvd with digital input - made me go in the other room - just to see if the sound I heard was comming from there.
Yes... watching movies on DVD is a thrill that will make you go and watch your collection again on this system.
HOWEVER!!! What you will never want to do is listen to your
favorite music on this system.
This is not a replacement for a true hi fi system.
Movies tend to be within the sounds of voice... or a big explosion. There is no mistake about it.. movies YES audio NO.
Bottom verdict: If you only want to experience 5.1 surround on a budget of $150 bucks.. this will give you a taste of what it has to offer.
The old saying: "you get what you pay for applies"
That being said... I should mention that the front and rear
speakers that come with this are as cheap as the thrown in speakers that come with any computer. But given the value of the amplifier/tuner.. you can always upgrade. The way I see it is... you are paying for the receiver... and the cheap speakers are thrown in to get you started.
