A must for panic sufferers
Date of Review: Aug 20, 2000
I do not like to get into my personal life too much, but I am going to explain something about me. I have had Panic Disorder for over 6 years now. It is really hard to live with and people look at me like I have a disease. I have a disorder that is it. I get rushes of adrenaline that make me feel scared at anytime. That is it. NO disease, a disorder. I am as normal as any one else.
Any way to carry on here I have been fighting the battle and I am winning it. I am med free and proud of it. I have been reading Dr. Burn's Feeling Good Handbook and it is excellent. It is based on Cognitive Behavorial Therapy. This therapy helps to change the way you think and accept yourself as the person you are.
Feeling Good Handbook teaches you what negative feelings are and how you can change them. This book has depression and anxiety inventories so you can watch your improvement. Dr. Burn's discusses self-esteem and ways to boost it. He discusses ways to fight off fears. This book is a must for panic sufferers and those who have low self-esteem.
The one thing I really like about this book is there are assignments in it. You can only improve if you want to. These assignments are great because you are actually getting involved and seeing right in front of you what thoughts you have. This helps when you learn how to change them so you can look back.
I am still fighting the battle, but thanks to great self-help books like the Feeling Good Handbook, I am making great progress.
