a favorite memory

Dr. Seuss would have celebrated a birthday this week so I thought it appropriate to write a review on one of the many books he has written.
The Cat In The Hat has a rhyming text which many of his books do he wrote them this way so that school age children would have something to read at their level rather then the standard Dick and Jane that was published in the 1950s.
Dr, Seuss used basic words that would be familiar to his reader and make reading successful for them.

The illustrations in The Cat In the Hat are mostly red and black. Dr. Seuss' drawings almost appear to be slightly cartoonist and exaggerated to appeal to the child.

The story is about two children who have nothing to do on a rainy day when there mother is out and who appears but the Cat In the Hat with many ideas of what the children could do but none of them are something there mother would approve off.

The cat balances things on his body and brings in some friends thing one and thing two to help but all they do is run through the house. As the children see their mother approaching a fish who is featured throughout the story warns them they must get the house picked up with the help of a machine from the Cat it is picked up just in time.
The story ends with the mother asking what they did while she was out and of course they answer nothing.

This story takes on other meanings in this time should the children have let a stranger into their house when their mother was out? Should they have lied to their mother about not doing anything when she was out?
Reading this story with your child could lead to discussions of this subject as well as introducing them to beginning rhyming and just having fun reading a story that you can both enjoy.

This book can be read to children ages 3 to 5 and read by children 6 and up with some help.
