Author's Review
In the wake of FIGHT CLUB and the extreme wrestling phenomenon comes backyard wrestling. American youths performing totally insane and unbelievable violence right in their own backyards, often times without any safety measures, in their own homemade wrestling rings. If you think the WWF is violent, you probably will want to stay away from this series of tapes. This is ULTRAVIOLENT. Kids dive off rooves, take wicked head shots with chairs, get thrown onto burning gasoline, and more. Yeah, this is extreme all right, and to make matters worse, this is our future...
The BEST OF BACKYARD WRESTLING tapes have been compiled from a seemingly endless amount of footage sent in by various backyard wrestling federations from around the United States. These groups perform downright dangerous wrestling moves in crudely constructed rings, or whatever locations they can find. The tape is mainly a big compilation of snippets from various "matches," mostly constituting a series of the most wicked wrestling bumps you'll ever see, mainstream or otherwise. These images are disturbing, and likely will not appeal to many mainstream wrestling fans. In between the wrestling, we also get to see various "backyard babes" showing off their surgically enhanced breasts, if that's you're thing.
This footage has been featured on various talk shows, news programs, and even in newspapers, from "Rolling Stone" and "Sports Illustrated" to Jerry Springer and Oprah. Hardcore wrestling legend Mick Foley, who appeared in various extreme wrestling federations as Cactus Jack and who participated in these kinds of stunts in his early days of wrestling, has denounced these kids, and even appealed for them to cease with the incredibly brutal action you'll see here. But, alas, it is no avail, and the backyard wrestling phenomenon lives on.
The video plays like a kind of sick and extremely violent America's Funniest Home Videos, as it is a collection of amateur footage of wrestling stunts. We are treated to the sites of performers jumping off rooves and crashing onto tables with their opponents laid out on, wrestlers slammed onto burning wood and instantly igniting, pile drivers performed on top of cars, and much more. This is really some of the most violent and brutal wrestling you'll ever see, and the sad part is that it is being performed by non-professionals in less than safe conditions. Every once in a while you'll hear a story about some wanna-be wrestler getting seriously injured, or in some cases killed, and its no wonder if this is the kind of stuff that's being done. I myself have participated in this kind of activity, but only under the most safe conditions possible. Really, personal safety has to be your number one concern if you do anything like this, and even then, it can be quite dangerous. I don't think anyone really wants to be known as the guy who was seriously injured/killed while imitating pro wrestling.
Perhaps the most disturbing facet of backyard wrestling is the use of weapons in the "matches." Thumbtacks, light bulbs, fire, metal chairs, stop signs....anything that could even remotely be used to harm an opponent is frequently utilized during the course of these matches to add a sick highlight to the matches. On this tape, we are treated to a section of "forbidden" footage, featuring barbed wire, a match taking place in a trash-filled yard complete with flourescent light tubes, tack, bulbs, barbed wire, and more, and a "dungeon death match" featuring all of the above plus the use of alcohol-driven fire. This footage is downright sick; it is just amazing what some people will do, and how low they will stoop in their pursuit of the most violent wrestling footage they can produce. You will literally see people being set on fire and burning for several seconds, and I don't care what anyone says, SOMEONE on this tape HAD to suffer some pretty legitamate wounds.
Out of all of this, BEST OF BACKYARD WRESTLING is one of the most shocking and utterly unbelievable wrestling tapes available. I, myself, being an extreme wrestling fan, like these tapes if for no other reason than to see some of these insane stunts and bumps. I cannot emphasize enough though, that these tapes absolutely should not be put into the hands of children, lest they get some ideas of their own. Backyard wrestling really can ONLY be performed by those who actually have some kind of knowledge about how wrestling works, and know enough to say when enough is enough. If pushed too far, backyard wrestling can become quite dangerous; even deadly.
If you don't mind the violence and sick brutality, this tape can be quite entertaining in a sick, twisted kind of way, but please, make sure you're responsible enough to watch it, and for God's sake, don't show it to the kids.
