Teach Your Child To Read!
Date of Review: Jun 25, 2000
I recently bought this book because my 3 1/2 year old loves to read. I am very impressed with this book. We have only just begun the lessons, but I can already see it paying off!
What I love most about this book is that it gives a script to follow. You do not need to be a genius to use this book. All you need to know how to do is read. Teaching your own child can be very intimidating, and this book gives step by step instructions on what to say and what to do. The thought of teaching my own child kind of scares me. I was afraid I would do or say something wrong, and scar her for life. The first several pages of the book eased my fears. It explain how to teach the lessons to your child, what to say to encourage your child, how to correct your child's mistakes. It is do detailed and answers any possible question you may have.
As I stated before, we have just begun to use this book. Before we started our first lesson, I showed Mikayla our "Reading Schedule" and explained to her that this book was our "Reading Book". The reading schedule is just a piece of paper with several blocks. In the blocks I typed "Lesson 1", "Lesson 2", "Lesson 3", etc. When we have completed a Lesson, Mikayla puts a star sticker in the appropriate box. We have started out very slowly. We did lesson 1, and then repeated it a few times until I felt like Mikayla understood the way our Lessons worked. She really enjoys our reading time and is so proud of herself when she completes a Lesson and gets another star on her Reading Schedule. I am so proud of her, and also proud of myself. I am very glad to have this book to help me Teach My Child To read!
