~~ MAKE YOUR MARK IN THE WORLD WITH TATTOO MAGAZINE ~~

Date of Review: Jun 6, 2009

The Bottom Line:

Wonderful, fun magazine for anyone who loves, has, or is interested in sporting a tattoo!!

I may be delicate, but I am strong enough to handle the pain of tattoos all over my body! At least I will try to be once I can make a decision what and where I want my tats! I have had semi-permanent ink burned onto me, but it only lasted a few weeks!

Even though I have a few issues that I purchased off the newstands of Tattoo Magazine, I have yet to choose which one I want to brand myself with. Most moms, and women for that matter, have their kids names with a rose, butterflies, angel wings, crosses, rainbows, Asian symbols of peace and harmony.

Not me. I have to be different! I have a preference for Jiminy Cricket, a black white of Marlon Brando, Jimmy Dean or something wild like a scene from a favorite movie! When I finally decide, I will go to "Rockabilly", where they have a three story mall of tattoo artists that I can trust my life, and my hips, with!! With television reality shows gearing towards the fashion and individuality of tattoos, like Tattoo Highway and Miami Ink, this is a great mag to have on hand if you suddenly take interest!

I can use all the advice and ideas I can get. So, I bought more than one issue of Tattoo, for slightly over $5 (which is less than the average hair magazine) and I was able to admire some of the most beautiful artwork I have ever seen, and even got some ideas in case I change my mind on getting myself BRANDED with BRANDO.

This is one heck of a rock and roll magazine, where I can tap into that inner tough girl I have, the one born of a hippie musician who drove a Harley and had tats, my father! The articles are a lot of fun as they focus on professionals who are up and coming and those who have been around the block before. I love that the "models" are just real life folks who love to use their body as a canvas for these artists. You see things you would have never dreamed of to expand your imagination with what tat you may be interested in having!

The magazine is at or around 100 pages, give or take, and there are more pictures than articles, so it is a great visual tool. The articles are very flavorful, focusing on creativity of various artists, their style, their salon, their education and inspiration. They are able to show off the logos and badges of art. It is very glorifying to a personal aspiring to become a tattoo artist, to show that you can work hard and be recognized for their talent!

There is some skin in this magazine, but no more than a Sport Illustrated Swimsuit mag. It is Tattoo, so of course, you are going to see people in less clothing or partially nude to show off the art that has been created upon them. If I could do whatever I wanted, I would have some of the brave creations many of these people have, but I am struggling just to have something on my hip or the small of my back at this point!

I love the tattoo community, they are so free, down to earth and exciting! I have no idea, maybe it is because my dad sported them, but I feel more comfortable around people who sport a tat or two! It is real fun learning about people, and they even have a section where people send in their home photos and the best are chosen to be published in the magazine!

They have many advertisements for products, and have such features like reviews, music and fashion, events and conventions, Tattoos in the News and all kinds of products and places that are relevant to the tat community at large.

I have only had two issues, both which were very similar and interesting, as well as helpful. I am not certain if they have updated the magazine in the last six months, I haven't bought an updated issue for quite sometime. They seem to follow protocol of artists and manufacturers, and do everything with great taste and respect. It is a great magazine for the veteran artist, upcoming artist, tattoo enthusiast or the tattoo-curious, like myself!
