Author's Review
Story: 10/10
An Evil shaman has stolen the moonstones, the essence and power of the benevolent Moon Juju. The evil wizard also has turned townsfolk of the jungle-village into sheep. However, in this story, the Hero, not Tak, who was supposed to save the village has also been turned into a sheep. Enter Tak, a village boy, is sent to get something that will turn the hero into a human. However during his journey Tak learns that the only way to rescue everyone is to defeat the evil doer. So he goes off to find the perpetrator, so along with his sidekick a floating green thing named Flora, a intriguing and hilarious excursion ensues. Pretty weird, but solid story.
Graphics 10/10
The graphics reminded me of the Rayman franchise. The graphics were all cartoonish, but still vividly alive and detailed. I love the graphics of the trees, rocks, lakes and the other various elements around you. The people also look great, especially Tak. He has a great blend of human and cartoon features, and some of his detailed facial expressions will have you cracking up. I even liked how the villains look. Most of the time you could not tell who was bad or good since everyone looks so wacky and zany. Overall the graphics were just superb and can easily be the best part of the game, very nice to look at.
Sounds 8/10
This was probably the only problem I had with the game. Each level should have had its own track, but that was not the case. Also when a song would finish, there would be a good minute in which no music would play as the next song was being prepared to play. One level just had no music, all you could hear is the wind blow, which was quite strange. I love the voice acting in this game. The characters all sounded genuine, especially Tak and his giddy voice. The dialogue was also exceptional, with most of the dialogue going on between characters being simply hilarious.
Gameplay 10/10
I simply love the gameplay of this game. Tak is such a innovative main character. Tak has many powers such as being able to use Juju magic, a staff, a club and even an acorn shooter. But the best part of the game is that he can use animals to aid him. Like you can tease monkeys into opening secret places and rhinos can be used to charge into and demolish walls.
The game starts boring, since the tasks you are asked to do are very simple. But as soon as you finish the early stages and enter the real world of Tak, the game is just exceptionable. Every level in the game takes place outside in nature which is great since the scenery is phenomenal. You'll traverse through canyons, desert, mountains, jungles, snowy summits, islands, and ghost worlds. Most levels involve you collecting something to complete the level. This makes you search every nook and cranny in the levels. It is a good challenge and it involves using your wit and puzzle solving skills to accomplish everything you need to in a particular level.
Overall the gameplay is really fun if you like exploring and collecting items. Each level you are situated in is just beautiful. There are also some mini games located inside the levels, like in one level you skateboard for items, which was a good surprise. The only problem i have were the controls, they were not hard, but they did take a while to get used to.
Replay Value 5/10
There is relatively no replay value once you finish the game. You can always beat the game over, but besides that there is nothing else. The only thing you can do after you beat the game is to collect everything such as all of the Yorbels in all of the levels.
Overall this is a definite must buy in my opinion if you are a Gamecube owner. This game is just fantastic even though it starts off very sow. All I can say is give the game a chance, even though the title of the game might turn you off, just give it a try, its definitely worth it.
