Author's Review
Here's something to wet your appetite. Okay DJ's and tech-heads, you're going to dig this. Stanton may have the next addition to your turntables arsenal. The Stanton DJ Pro 1000 Mk II allows a wide frequency sound reproduction and comes in a stealthy form fitting design with a removable cord that offers a lot of diversity for the DJ on the go. It should be noted that the 1000Mk II are headphones marketed and intended for professional Disc Jockey's.
The first thing you'll probably notice is the smooth attractive, black and silver ultramodern design. Installation and set is pretty simple, just plug it into your monitor. Weighing in at only 200 grams, they fall right into the lightweight category. With the 1000Mk IIs 8.9 feet of cord you've got the desired mobility and length needed to move around and select CD's or records while the beets continue offering uninterrupted play for your guest with this portable audio device. I opted for the straight 1/4" cord since the coiled versions require more work. I've never been a big fan of pulling my cords. I really like headphones functional design, which allows for flexible positioning and off ear beat monitoring. You can easily flip this back and use one ear for stylish monitoring.
The headphones are not heavy and are comfortable enough to be worn for a 6 hour set. Naturally as with any headphone perspiration will build, depending upon the temperature of the venue you are playing. One of the things you'll appreciate is the comfortable padding that surrounds the ear like ear muffins. Since my ears are vital to spinning records, I like to have them comfortable. If my ears dont feel good, then my audience does not get my best work. In the end the foam-covered earpieces add everyones listening enjoyment.
This is a great headphone when your crowd gets noisy, and you need noise cancellation. Not only do you get excellent sound reproduction, but also the full bass sound quickly lets you know you've got some heavy drivers behind the 1000Mk II's technology. Frequency response for this particular headphone is 20 Hz - 20 KHz. This means you get the desired punch right through your monitors so you can easily queue the next song. Ultimately you get clear detailed sound quality with full-range frequency response.
Im giving the 1000 MK four out of five stars as they deliver the desired sound reproduction needed when performing. Ive owned mine for 9 months and have not had any problems. As a final point, you don't have to be a DJ to use the 1000Mk II; you can use it with your home audio system or portable CD or MP3 player. They probably won't be as comfortable since they are bigger, but the sound quality is awesome.
Final thoughts:
The affordable price should fit most DJ's budget. For only $59.00 dollars you get what you pay for, and in my opinion that is a good deal. Most DJ's will spend their big bucks on their turntables or cd players. However, the best mixer in the world will not compensate for tacky headphones, so grab a name that recognized in the industry. Popular and proven, this headphone is ready to go in a variety of systems and configurations to suit any performance situation or budget. When it comes down to the Stanton DJ Pro 1000 Mk II is a wise choice, they may not last a lifetime but their technology is solid and it should last for several years or at least until Stanton manufactures their next model.
