Movies don't make video-games look good people.....

Date of Review: Aug 28, 2009

The Bottom Line:  This game may be kinda cool, but I consider it a torture device.
LOL, I'm a big fan of videos games since I was little, so when this Spider-man came out, I was all hopped up for this game, big disappointment, that is what it is.

Controls:
Takes a couple of minutes to get a hang on it so I will explain some basic controls for this game, A is for jumping, press it again for your old-school Double Jump, B is for punches, press it 3 times and you get your simple 3-hit combo, X is for kicks, again, press it 3 times for a kick combo, Y is for Web-Shot to trap some bad guys into your web and making them unable to move for a while (WARNING: bosses cannot be tied down like the rest of the enemies), press Up and Y to shootout a ball of web to hit your enemy, L is for getting over to some place quickly by attaching a web to a nearby wall and fly over there, press Y while doing this and you will be a missile of web, and finally we have the R, it lets you swing around in mid-air, and yes, your web doesn't grab into anything, so you will wonder how is he able to fly. Z is to choose where you will shoot your web or where will you zip right in. And finally C-Stick, you only use the up, this will lock-on into an certain enemy for more efficient fighting or shooting. Which reminds me, that the camera angle sucks in this game, you may want to go down the level but the camera dosen't follow you all the time, so you will fight with the camera for a while.

Story:
Peter Parker is your typical nerd kind of guy (I don't have anything against nerds by the way) who got his powers by getting bitten by a spider while going into a field trip into some Oscorp's labs, then he started to feel weird and feel asleep, the next morning he was all buffed up like he took some steroids and doesn't need his glasses anymore too, he wanted to get a car to impress a student who he has a crush on (Mary-Jane Wattson), so he decides to enter into a fighting contest where he could win 3,000 bucks in 3:00 minutes and easily since he got some new hot powers, then on the way into the fightingplace, he fights with his uncle because, Peter let his powers go way over his head, and he got out of the car and into the fighting place and got signed up for the fight, and the guy who is the referee told him that his new fighter name was Spider-Man. He fights with some guy that apparently, has never loosed once but Peter (Or should I say Spider-Man?) beats up the guy in 1:23 seconds. But the promoter cheats on him saying that he NEEDED to fight and win against him in 3:00 minutes EXACTLY and doesn't give him his whole money (scumbag gave him only 100 bucks), and while he is leaving, a guy robs the promoter and Peter lets him get away (What the hell?) to get revenge on the promoter, then the guy who let away kills his uncle. And Peter saw him in his last moments, after that he putted his fighter outfit and went after the guy, after going around the city to find him, he finally spots him in his uncle's car and makes him crash into a building. After a little cat-and-mouse game, Spidey finally realises who the killer was, the guy who he let away, after Peter realised who he was, the guy retreated a little back but tripped over a pipe and into the window and got himself killed.
After the funneral of Uncle Ben (Damn I forgot to tell you that his name is Ben), Peter got so sad after the lose of his uncle that he decided to fight crime with his powers, so he couln't lose any more persons he loved, that is how Spider-Man was born.
But Oscop took a little interest in Spider-Man and seems like he will hire people to capture him....

Game-play:
Pretty interesting story huh? Sadly that is the only interesting part of the game. So you play around knocking out everyone you find until you end the mission, yes, this game is based on scenarios and I think they are over 10 scenarios. After a couples of scenarios, you need to fight a boss which is sometimes hard to do depending on the difficulty. You can choose what difficulty you wanna play this game.
Easy is for new guys who didn't know that this game was a disappointment, enemies don't do a lot of damage and can easily be deafeated.Normal is for guys who has a little experience and had nothing to do but to play this game, enemies do moderate damage as well they do resist a little more punishmen.
Hero is for veterans who SERIOUSLY had nothing to do for a day, enemies attacks do more damage and resist a LOT of damage.
Super Hero is for people who really think they are bada$$ and think they will get over this game without dying once, enemies do MAXIMUM damage and your combos barely tickle them.
Bad guys range from your typical street gangsters to professional criminals to wasps, robots, and bosses. Sometimes they will come to you and try to knock you out with punches or kicks or sometimes combos, or sometimes they may try to shoot you with some handguns or shotguns, which I recommend that you take out first, cause in Hero and Super Hero difficulties, they tend to kill you really quickly. Other enemies are Wasps that the Green Goblin deploys that can easily be destroyed but since they are small and in groups, they tend to be annoying and lethal. Other enemies are Super-Robots that can punch you and shoot you with lasers or even worse, rockets and you know, don't handle them at Hero or Super Hero.
As you go around kicking some butt, you will find some power-ups in your way, they tend to look like spider icons and here are their effects. Red Spider replishes some health, Blue Spider replishes some of your web, and Golden Spider gets you a new combo.
Speaking of combos, they vary a lot in this game, some are simple like pressing A, B and Y. You may want to find this new combos to lighten up your game-play as you walk around kicking everything that moves. The combo system is really good since in the beginning it looks like you create your own awesome combos, after you get a new combo, you can press Pause and go to Combo List which tells you all the combos you can do and what other combos you need to unlock in order to do them. You can also use the environment to your advantage (ex. throwing some guy into a pit of flames) to do your job more easily. You can also grab a variety of weapons, like tires, explosive tanks, rocks and other stuff, you could just press B to grab them and B again to throw, but you could just press X to throw it without picking it up.
Some times missions vary from sneaking up into a place, to chasing some bad guys before they get away, to flying trough roof-tops, Bosses, rescuing civilians, and your typical beat-them up style.
If you feel like it, you could just run around in sneaking mission but I hardly recommend it if you're on Hero or Super Hero difficulties because enemies tend to resist a lot of damage and they could easily kill you.
Roof-Tops missions involve going trough the roofs of buildings to chase guys or that kind of stuff, there is a bar in the lower-left that tells how high or low you're, if you go too high, well you stop going more higher unless you want to end up in space, if you go too low, you die, which dosen't make any sense. Chasing are like Roof-Tops, except you don't wanna lose sight of them as the upper-bar tells you how close you're to them, they can also throw things at you to slow you down or they could put civilians in danger. Beat-Them up is basically move and killing everything you find and rescuing some people along the way until you finish. Rescuing missions involve saving civilians along the way and prevent them from dying (ex. a bridge may fall into the street). Bosses well.....duh, kill the boss before it kills you.
In the end of the scenario, you will be given points for how well you did on the mission. Bonus points are awarded for Perfect (means, never got hit once), finding bonus missions (like rescuing a hidden person or opening a secret door), Combos (the more you do, the better), and how many enemies you defeated.

Sound:
Music is kinda nice at first but tends to get repetitive. They used some of the movies and cartoon's soundtracks, so if you watches the cartoons or movies, you will recognise the soundtracks. Sound of footsteps or water is kinda tardy, but other effects like punches, kicks, shooting, explosions, or alarms tend to be great. As well as voice acting, is also good and Shocker's Sonic Boom sounds really awesome.

Graphics:
They are not really that great. Sometimes you seem like made of polygons, if this where a N64 this could had been a cool graphic, which is not. Water is nice but since the graphics don't look really well, it looks like just transparent or green floor. Sometimes the patter of the floor is repeated in various scenarios as well enemies tend to repeat themselves over and over. But each scenario has their own backgrounds which I give points to creativitie because no scenarios are repeated or used the same background.

Replay-Value:
Not much I can say here, except there are some secrets like different clothing and guess what........to play as the Green Goblin itself!!!
Also mini-games are fun to play with, also there is a password finder, oh well, I will put the cheat-codes in here. No CAPS sensitive.
GIRLNEXTDOOR: Play as Mary-Jane
ORGANICWEBBING: Unlimited Web
ARACHNID: Have everything unlocked except Mini-games and Secrets

Overall:
Like I said, is not worth it to buy this game at full price, if you can, try to buy it at discount, or have it borrowed.
You may have some fun with it for a while, but after that, it gets really dull and boring to play.
If you have this game, I recommend this cheats I putted for some extra fun that will last like 3 minutes.
This happens after you try make a popular movie into a video-game and put random stuff in it.
Enjoy your gaming.
