The Trilogy is Complete, but It Left Me Unfulfilled
Date of Review: Dec 20, 2007
The Bottom Line: Good ending to the trilogy, but could have been more than it was.
The final installment of the Spider-man trilogy brings the superhero franchise to an end - that we know of. Many stars and the director have stated they will not return for another movie, but who really knows once the $$$ comes in.
This one finds our favorite superhero on a new high. He's beloved by the citizens of New York, has the girl of his dreams (M.J.), and has been able to prioritize his life as Peter Park with his webslinging alter-ego. Who knew a little time management would go such a long way?
But he's also got problems, big problems. His best friend, Harry Osborne, knows he's Spider-man and is seeking revenge for his father's death. The Sandman is originally responsible for the death of Peter's Uncle Ben. And then there's Venom/Eddie Brock, who doesn't really enter the movie until about halfway.
Yes, this movie is packed with the principles of revenge and death as much as it is action. This is where it goes wrong. With 3 villains and a franchise to tie up, it simply tries to do too much. It's a long movie, which I don't mind, but I didn't feel like it was as solid as the other movies in terms of the plot and the character development. Overall, it's well done - it's certainly not a bust like X-Men 3 (don't get me started on that one!). It was just missing that "Spidey" magic we all came to know and expect from the the first two movies.
