A good value 6.5'' coaxial speaker

I needed to buy a new pair of 6.5'' speakers for a used car that I bought so I went down to my local electronics store to see what the cheapest pair would cost me. After looking at my choices I didn't want to go with an off name brand speaker pair because I just didn't trust them to perform or last. I've been installing car stereos and speakers now for about 15 years so I know my way around decks, amps, speakers, and wiring very well. I ended up buying these particular sony speakers for the following reasons.

Construction
These speakers are made of a very sturdy plastic laminate type cone. No cheap paper construction here, just a good quality hard blue cone material that seems like it will last a long time. It also has the benefit of being water resistant. The rubber surround on the cone is made of a good quality polypropene rubber material. As this is the only moving part of the speaker, this is the part that will wear out first and that usually happens after prolonged(over a year or two) usage. The grills or covers for the speakers are also very sturdy. They are made from black wire mesh so no holes will get poked in the cones of the speakers if something bumps into them. They were also very easy to mount and install because they have multiple mounting holes for screws in the frame of the speaker.

Performance

The magnets on these speakers are fairly heavy, and that's what you need if you're going to pump serious power into them. I am currently powering these off my car stereo deck and they perform well. However in the future I might connect them up to an external amplifier and I'm more than positive that they will handle at least 50 to 75 watts or so max. The speakers sound very good with just a touch of tinginess on the high end (treble) and they have decent bass response.

Price

I paid $60 for the pair which is not a bad deal but I think if you shop around you can find them a little cheaper, maybe $50 at the bottom end. I still think that $60 is still a good value considering that these are 6.5'' coaxials. Most comparable speakers in this size range would cost at least $75 and maybe even over $100.

Final Judgement
If you don't want to spend much money and you just want a basic set of speakers that sound pretty decent these are the ones for you. If you're looking for pure sound quality to match up a higher end car stereo system then you should be spending more for a better brand.
