A Pleasant Surprise

Date of Review:  Aug 29, 2006
The Bottom Line: Sony makes a bold statement with their first Digital SLR. Great image quality and a nice features make this a good camera for a broad range of consumers.
Review: Sony's first step into the world of digital SLRs is a good one, much to my surprise. Here are my initial thoughts on the Sony D-SLR Alpha 100.

Brand
Sony has long been a manufacturer of fantastic quality televisions. Sony's repertoire...

Sony's First SLR Makes Every Lens Worth $800 More

Date of Review:  Nov 27, 2006
The Bottom Line: A great dSLR for any enthusiast who wants to enjoy the benefit of image stabilization with any lens along with high resolution, very natural image quality and excellent ergonomics.
Review: As other reviewers have noted, the Alpha 100 is Sony's first foray into the world of digital SLRs. However, this is not really a first-generation product, since it is actually the result of Sony's acquisition of Konica-Minolta's digital camera...

A great camera, especially if you have old Minolta lenses.

Date of Review:  Jul 1, 2007
The Bottom Line: This camera continues to exceed my expectations for image quality and control. It integrates perfectly with my 20-year old Minolta AF lenses. It has singlehandedly renewed my love of photography.
Review: In my closet, a nondescript camera bag sits in a dark corner. It's seen many of my life's great moments, but it hasn't seen the sun in years. Inside, a fully tricked out Minolta Maxxum 7000i slumbers next to enough glass to equip an army of...

Sony's very first SLR

Date of Review:  Oct 15, 2006
The Bottom Line: It's a good camera; but it costs more than few dollars more than others in the same class. Quick burst mode, easy to ready controls.
Review: Sony has some very good products; they just introduced the product recently. It is not an inexpensive camera, the body goes for about $750. For about an extra $100, you can obtain an 18-70mm lens.

At 10.2 megapixels, it delivers a lot of...

A great camera - time to find it bargain-priced

Date of Review:  Mar 8, 2008
The Bottom Line: A highly dependable camera with very good results. Buy it if cheap, otherwise go for the A-200!
Review: I've had this camera for just over a year now. It has comfortably performed excellently and dependably all the time, as long as I haven't expected miracles!

It has of course been superseded by the Sony Alpha A-200, which is good news if...

Big Relief for Minolta Lens Owners!

Date of Review:  Jan 20, 2007
The Bottom Line: A great camera for those who like photography and being creative with the hobby. Certainly a wise choice if you own Minolta lenses already.
Review: I was sick when I first hear that Konica Minolta was getting out of the camera business, but pleasantly surprised about their partnership with Sony. I've owned 2 Sony camcorders, and several VCR's and DVD players over the years. So, I had no...

A review by a total non-techie

Date of Review:  Dec 28, 2007
The Bottom Line: The best technology in a user-friendly format
Review: After having my daughter, I decided I wanted to upgrade my digital camera. I had a $250 point and shoot Toshiba that took decent pictures. I went to the store and came home with the sony alpha 100, an 18-70 lens and an external flash. As soon as I...

No more film

Date of Review:  Jan 5, 2008
The Bottom Line: Would recommend for great photos.
Review: The Alpha combines the best of a film SLR and a digital camera. I like it better than my Minolta SLR. It has a comfortable grip and the buttons are well placed. I have printed some photos 13X19 inch, the largest my printer can, and they still look...

Sony's AWESOME DSLR

Date of Review:  Dec 6, 2007
The Bottom Line: Easy enough for beginners to lean on yet offers professional quality photographs.
Review: This is Sony's, and my, first DSLR. I have been using point-and-shoots my whole life and found that I had outgrown them all; I needed something with increased resolution, but also had enough features to let me grow as a photographer.

This...

Sony Alpha digital Camera Warning

Date of Review:  Feb 16, 2007
Review: I'm a knowledgeable buyer of this great camera. It's perfect for anyone that has lots of Minota gear/lenses. The price is now reasonable in the $600-$700 range. Full functions without being a pain to "learn".

When shopping for a Sony Alpha...
