Sony DVP-NS57P: Not bad for a low-priced player, but not problem-free, either.

The Bottom Line: While it's not as bad as a cheap player, the Sony DVP-NS57P is all right but not earthshakingly so. Best used as a secondary player on a standard TV.

The Bottom Line: Subtle changes created a winner. I wish Sony were not so miserly and slow to offer features available from other Manufacturers. The obsolescence game is getting tiresome.

A Better DVD Player For Older, Used Discs

The Bottom Line: The DVP-NS57P is a good value, if you're wanting a basic DVD player. It's not fancy and doesn't do HD or upconverting but for a basic player it's worthwhile.
Review: Well, I have learned a good lesson this year. Stay away from those ultra-compact DVD players that run 30 to 40 dollars. Unless your DVD's are in pristine condition, those players won't play older or more heavily used discs at all. I have seen the...

Shines on old NTSC TVs

Cheap machine bad picture

Review: The only redeeming quality of this player is its half-decent stereo imaging; this doesn't mean it SOUNDS good.
Picture quality through the upconversion is grainy and veiled. Color balance poor, green tint.

Great Entry Level DVD Player

The Bottom Line: This is a great buy for the average user and will be compatible with the newer TV's
Review: First, I believe this model as of 2/2006 is discontinued, so you will probably only find it on eBay and the liquidators these days.

I got mine on eBay from a dealer who specializes in RMA's (customer returns) and who supposedly tests them...

Review: Unless you're looking for your DVD player to spell out the word CANNOT for every disc you put in, this may not be the machine for you. The picture and sound had been quite good for the price, but my intention wasn't to buy a living room DVD player...
