I researched every camcorder up and down. 3-Chip,DVD,Hard drive and HDV. For the money and the current Technology, you will be hard pressed to find a better camera. 3chip is awesome unless your inside a party or other low light situations. DVD is not yet there, almost and by the time it is I will be ready for a new camera. Hard drive sounds good until your in Europe for weeks and your drive is full. HDV really not worth the extra $$$ plus your limited to an hour a tape. It really isn't true High Def. This is new tech as is DVD. I would love to get both. In the future, I will. For the money this is the camera you want.
Check other reviews at Cnet.com or camcorderinfo.com. Then stop and think what are you using it for. For most, it is for family events, and this is perfect for that. I too, got all caught up in getting the best camcorder I could, then I said wait a minute, I am not broadcasting the news or making big time motion pictures. I am recording the birth of my first child, parties with friends etc. Sure 3chip might have a "bit" better pic, but come on. Guess what I played back my first tape and Wow, unbelievable video quality, color and sound. Great Deal. Should last until they iron out the defects in all the new tech. Thanks for reading and good luck. P.S. I love the auto lens cap!!
