Sony DCR-TRV530 Digital8 Camcorder -- Like the TRV330 with a Bigger LCD

Date of Review:  Jun 18, 2001
The Bottom Line: Moving up in the Digital8 line, this camcorder adds a larger (3.5-inch) LCD screen to the feature set, and $100 to the list price of the TRV330.
Review: As with many consumer electronics products, buying a Sony Digital8 camcorder is a "One from Column A, One from Column B" type of decision. The camcorders in the Digital8 line are physically almost identical, all being encased in the same plastic...

Sony DCR-TRV530 Digital8 Camcorder / Still Camera For Those Who Like Large LCDs

Date of Review:  Jun 10, 2001
The Bottom Line: This model is a good choice for those who want Digital8 compatibility and value and prefer large LCDs.
Review: Modern digital camcorders divide into two categories: the ones that use MiniDV tape and Digital8 ones (Hitachi has a camcorder that uses DVD-RAM, but it?s an exception rather than the rule). The Sony DCR-TRV530 is a Digital 8? camcorder with still...

Good Compromise for those who want digital quality and 8mm

Date of Review:  Aug 29, 2001
The Bottom Line: 8mm capability plus digital sound and picture and 3.5 inch screen at a reasonable price point make the 530 a great buy for the money;
Review: Sony's hybrid 8mm/digital camcorder line puzzled many experts when first released a few years ago. Why would consumers want to stick with the old 8mm format when they could simply convert to pure digital? But Sony recognized a large consumer market...

Overall a good camera

Date of Review:  May 28, 2002
The Bottom Line: You won';t be disappointed with this purchase if you are the occasional video shooter.
Review: I bought this camera based on two criteria; Name and price. The camera is a great camera for video pictures. Slightly on the heavier side as compared to others in it's class. The features are enough for my use. If you are a REAL video enthusiast,...

Digital 8 at its BEST

Date of Review:  Jun 29, 2001
The Bottom Line: Great camera for the money, new price point is very reasonable. I love the USB connection to computer for still picture transfer.
Review: This camera will not only take Digital Video on the Digital 8 tapes, but also can record still pictures like a digital still camera on memory sticks. I am very happy that Sony came out with this new camcorder that has USB connectivity. This USB...

Hi-end camcorder for less price

Date of Review:  Nov 24, 2002
The Bottom Line: Its a must buy for high aspirants and low budget planners. The set is very handy and it is much cheaper than any other Digital-8/mini DVs with similar features.
Review: This camcorder has a big LCD 3.5" screen. It has all the features that a standard camcorder in the SONY TRV range has.
It has nightshot, super nightshot, functions like movie, mossaic , etc etc.. It has a 25X optical zoom and 700X digital zoom...

fine video, so-so stills

Date of Review:  Jun 4, 2001
The Bottom Line: great digital video camera if you need backward compatibility for 8-mm. if you want still shots, this is not a high quality dual purpose device--purchase a separate still digital camera.
Review: purchased a unit at best buy to replace a canon hi-8 that no longer worked. (have no experience with dv-only video cameras) very impressed with:
. video quality
. battery size and features (remaining time displayed)
. compatibility...

Sony TRV-530: GREAT BUY

Date of Review:  Jul 1, 2001
The Bottom Line: This is a great camera with a wide range of options. If you are looking for a top of the line camcorder, this is your best bet.
Review: I recently bought the Sony TRV-530 by mail order from Berger Brothers Inc. My father paid for it, but of course, I will be the only one to use it. My friends and I are into amateur video, so this was a definite peak in our life when my dad purchased...

Close to prosumer quality

Date of Review:  Aug 16, 2002
The Bottom Line: An excellent buy for both home video enthusiasts and amateur filmmakers. Excellent picture quality combined with a good camera size and LCD make this very close to "Prosumer" quality.
Review: The Sony TRV530 is a great digital camcorder for both home video and amateur filmmaking.

I am a film student and have found that in general, digital 8 cameras are much easier to use than the smaller miniDV models. The greater size and...
