Memory sticks have become a staple in our daily digital lives. Just 20 years ago, we in the computing community thought of them as high tech marvels that were only available on the pages of the latest issue of Popular Science or Scientific American. Now we use them in portable game devices, cel-phones, laptops and even digital cameras. One problem has developed though, memory sticks need to interface with other electronic gadgets and the operation is not always smooth. The Sony MSAC-M2 is the first step towards smooth operation for owners of Sony memory stick devices.
Construction
The card adapter only accepts memory stick duo cards in its thin, silver painted, metal exterior and white plastic case. The adapter measures 2"L x .85"W x .1"D. The adapter is no more than a pin extender so your device can take advantage of moden high speed memory technology and capacity. To insert a card into the reader simply slide in place with no more than 2lbs of force. To remove the card pull out with the same amout of force.
Compatibility
To test whether the adapter works with a wide range of Memory Stick Pro Duo memory cards, I plugged in the following cards from my personal collection and tested them with my laptop slot reader in Windows Vista.
The Sony MSX-M2GN, 2GB, works flawlessly.
The SanDisk SDMSD-512, 512Mb, works flawlessly.
The SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo, 4Gb, works flawlessly.
The SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo, 2Gb, works flawlessly.
The Sony MS-MT8G, 8GB, works flawlessly.
Each memory card worked in the card reader and I was able to use up to the 2Gb card in my older Sony digital camera. You cannot expect the write and read speed of your electronic device to increase with this adapter since older interface technology could be slowing it down.
Summary
I was pleased with how easy this product was to use. As you can see it is also compatible with a wide range of memory stick products.
