Buyer Beware

We have had problems with this product from the day it was delivered. First, it was missing parts that were never sent out after repeated requests. Secondly, we found out that the unit was leaking so badly that we ended up having to pull up our carpet and refinish our hardwood floors underneath. The unit is supposed to be self-evaporating, so it uses the moisture from the air to cool the unit. The manual does state that in extremely humid environments water will collect at the bottom of the unit. We were told by Soleus that if we used the drain plug the water would remain in the unit and when full it would indicate this on the display and we could then drain the unit (much like a dehumidifier). They also told us that we attach the drain tube instead of the plug and it would drain directly into the drain pan and not collect in the unit. Neither of these options worked and the unit continued to leak all over the floor. Then we noticed that the heat mode do not work properly either. The cold air would blow out of the back but there was no heat coming out of the front. In essence it was a large fan, cooling instead of heating. All throughout, we tried to work with Soleus but were met with unresponsive and extremely rude individuals. Their only recourse was for us to ship the 100 lb. unit back at our own expense and they told us they would not be responsible if it was damaged in transit. So if it got there damaged, they would not know if it was due to shipping or a legitimate warranty defect. They suggested we personally take the unit to the authorized repair shop, but the closest one was about 2 hours away. They offered no other solutions and we are basically stuck with a very expensive DEFECTIVE unit. I will never buy another product from Soleus as they make a poor product and are extremely difficult to work with!
