Skip the Slant/Fin Get a Vicks

I bought my Slant/Fin GF-240 in Nov 2005 so this is the second winter season that I have used it to try to keep a healthy level of humidity in my bedroom. Unfortunately it continues to disappoint me. I've discovered the only way to get any meaningful amounts of humidity out of it is to run it at full tilt which is quite noisy and impossible to sleep with unless you use ear plugs. Even at full tilt however, it struggles to raise the humidity level in my room by two or three percentage points. They say you should maintain roughly a 40% humidity rate in your house for good health in the winter, particularly if you are prone to respiratory problems as I am. Running for 24 hours my Slant/Fin could barely get the humidity level in my room above 30%. I had more success running a couple of $40 Vicks-brand humidifiers than I did with the Slant-Fin. Wish I had known that earlier.
