Author's Review
Before I purchased the Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones I was always the type of person who would use the cheap earbuds that would come with mp3 players and would be reasonably satisfied with them. I don't know what suddenly clicked on in my mind, but I decided that the Skullcandy Lowrider headphones would be a good purchase to make. It could have been my desire to have a pair of studio headphones, or perhaps I just needed something that was nice, shiny, and different.
The Lowriders come in a variety of different colors. All of them are two-toned, with the actual headphones being a different color from the rest of the unit. You can get these in main colors of white and black with the complementary colors being gold, green, blue, silver, red, and purple. To make the Lowrider very adjustable and portable, the DJ-style speakers rotate up to 90 degrees and the headband folds in half. Sometimes a little bit of my hair would get caught and it would hurt a little bit, it was a rare occurrence.
The most important thing is how these things sound, and the Lowriders pass the test easily. Despite the fact that the headphone has approximately a 2 inch radius, Skullcandy is able to stuff a 40mm power driver in there. If you're looking for something that will make you brain rattle with bass, this isn't exactly your bag, baby. If you do want headphones that provide clear and potentially loud sound, these would fit the bill. With the max input power being 400mW, you can really pump the sounds out, through I don't think there'd ever be a time you wanted it that loud.
The only real complaint I have about the Lowrider's is their overall fit. The length of each earphone is adjustable, but the earpads never really hug your head. It makes wearing these headphones while doing anything that requires a lot of head movement such as jogging, biking, ect.
As an added bonus, you also get peace of mind when buying Skullcandy because of their awesome warranty. They offer a lifetime warranty against damage caused by manufacturers defects. What really impressed me was their policy of replacing your product for half cost if you break your headphones any other way such as slamming them in the door, sitting on them, running them over, ect.
Final Thoughts
The Skullcandy Lowrider headphones are great for listening to music on your computer, music while traveling on a bus or airplane, or when you want to drown out background noise. I just wouldn't recommend them to anyone who is looking for a pair of headphones that will stick with them in high movement activities. They fit the bill perfectly for plugging them into your iPod and just relaxing with your favorite tunes.
