Hip Hop Sippin Syrup Is Overpriced Kick Kool Aid
Pros:
A fairly pleasant fruity liqueur that has a bit of a kick
Cons:
Pricey, a bit harsh and a bit too sweet.
The Bottom Line:
Not a bad fruity liqueur, although pricey, that is popular with the nightclub crowd and those that are familiar with the "purple drank" mix of alcohol and narcotics

Author's Review
I am not in the loop as I had not heard about the red hot illegal cocktail mixture that is favored by rap artists, hip hop, and Hollywood stars that mixes prescription cough syrup with the narcotic codeine, fruit flavored pop, and some alcohol added just for extra kick and danger.
Apparently this mixture is called "sizzurp" and is the topic of note of quite a few rap songs and videos including one by Kanye West in 2002. It is said
this was also the cocktail of choice of another rapper,
DJ Screw, who promoted the drink and died at age 30 of an overdose, and this type of cocktail was suspect.
This bottled cocktail, introduced in late 2004, runs about 23.00 or more a bottle, and is sold under the brand name "Sizzurp Purple Punch Liqueur". This concoction was put out by rappers Jim Jones and Cam'ron and is an attempt to cash in on the notorious cocktail blend to the nightclubbers, college binge crowd, and those already familiar with the drink from the videos and rap songs in which it appeared.
I picked up a small bottle of this is a liquor store before I actually had any idea what it was. I was rather intrigued by the purple color and that it is a "premium blend of imported cognac, vodka, and natural fruit flavors"
The alcohol content is 16% and it is considered a fruit liqueur. I am not a big fan of cognac, I find it can be a bit on the harsh side at times, the alcohol taste in this can be a bit sharp. This isn't a horrible drink, in fact, it isn't half bad. I can see it very popular with the college crowd, ending up in a dorm room punch bowl with a supply of paper cups next to it.
It's kind of a kicked up grape or raspberry type kool aid drink with a kick. It is opaque in nature, not a clear blend, and almost reminded me of a high voltage berry smoothie on first sip. However, as I was drinking more of it, I kept thinking how bad this could turn out and taste if it ended up coming back up if one drank too much!
I suspect this will be, or already is, popular with the rap music crowd. I am sure it isn't quite as effective without the codeine (thankfully!) At the price, I doubt it will become the new "Boone's Farm" as was the drink of choice of my generation, but I am sure it will find it's intended audience and make the creators quite wealthy.
