We love this crib for our triplets!

by   emnickalex ,   Feb 9, 2006

Pros:  Inexpensive, sturdy, love the extra storage drawer underneath!

Cons:  Difficult to drop the side rail, storage drawer not terribly sturdy.

The Bottom Line:  Great value, inexpensive, sturdy, converts to a toddler bed and a regular bed, love the extra storage drawer underneath.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

My triplets each have the Aspen 4 in 1 crib. We bought them (the cribs of course, not the triplets!) at Walmart for around $115 in the spring of 2004. We love these cribs! Despite the inexpensive price, we have found this crib to be very sturdy. My children are 21 months old now and do their fair share of jumping around while in the crib, and each crib has held up very well.

I love the fact that the crib has the pull out storage drawer underneath. That was very important to us when we were looking for cribs, as all 3 children share a bedroom and we knew that storage would be an issue. Unfortunately the storage drawers are not terribly sturdy. We have found that the particle board bottom of the drawers often pops out of the frame and we have to push or pound it back in, however the drawers are still very useful for holding things such as pajamas, blankets, extra sheets, and even the trio's shoes.

The only complaint I would have about this crib is that I have found it difficult to drop the side rails. However my mother and my husband seem to have no problem so I think it is just me being technically challenged. I am tall anyways so I have no problem just reaching over the rail to put the children in and out of the crib.

I love the fact that this crib converts to a toddler bed and then to a regular bed. I especially like that the toddler bed has side rails which will be very helpful when transitioning from crib to bed.

Updated to add: The crib is wooden and as far as I know it was only available in the one color (brown). The mattress support is metal which I feel is more safe than the wooden mattress slats. The matress was not included with the crib however the conversion kit was included with the crib, for the later transition to toddler bed and then adult bed. My husband put all 3 cribs together, actually twice as we moved to a new home when the kids were 15 months old, and he found them very easy to put together and didn't take him very long at all. The crib comes with a small tool (sorry I don't know the name of it, like a wrench or something?) that you use to assemble it. There are 4 different levels at which you can place the mattress. Now that our kids are 21 mos old we have the mattress set on the lowest level and luckily so far none of our kids have ever climbed out. The crib is also on wheels (which you can lock in place) so it is easy to move it out from the wall to change the sheets or to clean.
