If you need a wide zoom, this is the one to get

I have like most others the Canon 17-85 IS lens but wanted something wider for building and landscape shots.

After reading around I decided to try this lens. I've had many Sigma lenses over the years and generally been quite happy with them plus Amazon had it on sale.

I took it on a trip the the UK with me in March 08 and boy was I impressed.

At 10 mm focal length this thing gives an incredible field of view. You can look up the exact specs but I was blown away standing about 50-60 ft from the front of St Paul's and being able to see pretty much the entire building in the view finder. Yes obviously it was distorted but still.

Plus when I got the pictures on the computer I was wowed again by the sharpness of the images, they were just unreal.

While not a general purpose lens I'm still thrilled to bits with my purchase and expect may more images to come through this lens.

The lens has a nice deep black matt rubberized finish that feels nice to the touch and gives a real quality feel.
