Author's Review
Shure already had a good name in my mind before purchasing this product. After I have used them, Shure is the only inner-ear headphones (I will loosely use headphones in the rest of the review) I'll ever buy again.
Shure has a whole series of SE headphones, ranging from $100 and up, the SE-110 have a MSRP of $100, in other words they are the cheapest in the range, but still are on the mid-range of the price scale.
Design:
The cord is a heavy type, so there is little worry of kinks or bends breaking the wires. The headphones are connected to a roughly foot-long split cord from the buds themselves joined at the connector, then there is a yard-long extension. Unless you put your music player in a breast pocket you will need to use the extension. The buds are about a half of an inch in diameter, they could have been made smaller, but that would have added to the cost of the product. They come with six sets of inserts: soft rubber and foam in three sizes; small, medium and large. The pick of inserts is really a personal preferences, I picked the small foam.
Sound:
Now the sound part is where you tend to get what you pay for. In cheaper headphones you get a muddy and undefined sound. Not in the shures, everything is crisp, clean, and defined. Also, you don't loose the mid-tones, so you receive a much better overall sound stage. I think that the sound produced is better then my $50 2.1 Altec Lansing speakers. The bass is strong, with excellent treble response.
Noise-blocking:
With the fact that the foam and rubber go right into your ear, they block %90 of the outside noise. I find that if I'm listening to music almost everything is blocked, but on the other hand without music they are an expensive set of useless earplugs. I'm able to listen to music at much lower volume because of this feature allowing for much better battery life and less likelihood of hearing damage.
