Sharp UXP-200 Fax Machine Review

by   jwilkers ,   Apr 15, 2008

Pros:  Inexpensive, has the features we need.

Cons:  Uses "film" rolls, and has jammed a bit.

The Bottom Line:  If you do not fax much, it is fine. Good for home use only. I recommend to a friend only due to price and for light duty.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

We needed a fax machine, and saw this unit at a fairly decent price when we got it. Knowing nothing about fax machines, we shopped for price.

We got it home and set it up. Setup was fairly easy, although there weren't enough characters allowed to put our names in correctly.

We liked the fact that it will "listen" to the phone line for a fax if another extension is picked up. This is great, since we have an answering machine. The answerer will pick up, and the sending fax will try until ours connects.

It uses these "film rolls" which only allows about 50 pages or so. Every time the paper moves, including *sending* a page advances the film roller, so even if you aren't printing, a page of film is used.

The machine has had a tendency to feed multiple pages, or even jam. This happens on feeding things to transmit as well as the paper feed tray on sending. It's important to babysit the machine while it does its thing.

The machine has a built-in phone, so you can talk and arrange you fax machine without the need for a separate phone.

The machine does work. We do not fax too much, so it does okay as a light duty fax. As such, it does serve our needs, as long as we keep an eye on it while it works. I wouldn't recommend it for a business.
