Seinfeld w/o the Comedy

Sex, Lies, and Videotape (SLV) is a movie that is very rare. By that, I mean that it deviates from the typical movie format where you get introduced to characters, some problem occurs, and you go through a resolution which is typical.

For those of you who have not seen it, I'll give the basic plot, but you can be assured that watching this will be mush better than the way I describe it. The film is basically about a couple that is in a pretty loveless marriage. The husband, a lawyer, carries on an affair with his wife's sister and things stay as is until one of his old friends from his college days arrives. This "friend", James Spader, is very strange to say the least. He desires to live as a free spirit by having only a car and a few clothes. As the story progresses, we learn that the wife is extremely conservative when it comes to sexual issues. For her, the idea that sex is a pleasure for men and a duty for a wife is very mush a reality. Spader, in contrast, is a very sexual person who gratifies himself by videotaping women describe their sex lives and later masturbating to them. All of the aforementioned characters get set on a collision course which makes for an excellent film.

The one thing I loved about this movie was how it never had movie lines but simply used dialogue that is used in daily life. The conversations between the charcters are really intriguing and very hard hitting. The topics discussed are also very bold and for some people taboos. I recommend this film to any adult that likes movies which are made just for the sake of getting an insight into other peoples' perspectives.

The movie is not for those who are easily offended or see sexual things as being shameful or dirty. Those who think they are in for a skin flick, be fore-warned...you will be dissaponted. Overall,I'd say it is a great movie that is fun to watch when it's late at night and you can closely follow wht's going on because it's whisper quiet.
