Sennheiser PX100 headphones
Date of Review: Nov 12, 2004
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the purchase of these headphones for people who are on the go and need something relatively compact.
Looking for a high-quality, well-priced, semi-portable, and outstanding sound reproduction? Look no further...
General description:
Sennheiser may be a difficult name to pronounce, but the PX 100 headphones are not difficult to enjoy. A unique feature of the light weight PX 100s is their folding feature. These headphones can be folded similar to a pair of sun glasses and makes for better storage. The PX100s offer a so-called "fold and flip" design where the ear cups to be turned through 90?A? and fold the headphones closed (headphones will lock in open and closed positions).
The sound is crisp and well-defined with good brightness. The bass response is tight and does not sound muddy. The frequency range of these 114 dB rated headphones is between 15 Hz and up to 27,000 Hz.
Features:
-1.4 m Kevlar-reinforced OFC copper cable with 3.5 mm stereo jack plug
-Strong Neodymium magnets for extremely low distortion
-Balanced and detailed sound image for all types of music Crisp and fast bass response due to system "twin damping" with 80ppi polyurethane and special perforated elements
-Special baffle (based on the legendary HD 414) ensures very balanced sound
-Lightweight: only 60 g without cable
-Rugged and durable: robust steel headband with metal joints, steel-reinforced headband ends, connection to the ear cups tested for durability
Pros:
-Light-weight and offer a good range of accurate sound reproduction
-Unique folding feature
-Frame padding
Cons:
-Low frequency response could sound deeper
-The cord feels flimsy and could break if not careful
-Headphones filter out outside noise at a somewhat tolerable level
Overall thoughts:
I would recommend the purchase of these headphones for people who are on the go and need something relatively compact and do not care for "in the ear" ear bud type headphones. The folding design of the PX100s really serves as a benefit traveling or simply on the go. Sounds quality is excellent even without strong low bass response. Ideal for use with a portable device such as an MP3 player (check out my well-rated review on the Cowon iAudio U2 MP3 player at:
http://www.epinions.com/content_161341410948) or CD players. Overall, I am quite pleased with the Sennheiser PX100 headphones and would recommend them to someone else.
