Inexpensive Bliss......

I purchased a pair these headphones about 2 weeks ago. (For the purpose of comparison my reference headphones are ESP.9s---30/15kHz +-1.3db no longer made but you can compare at >$1k). These phones, however, can do things even my reference phones can't do and at 1/4 the current comparative price! With their diffusion technology the 600s offer unbelievably convincing string, percussion, piano, guitar and voice harmonics as well as a deep,wide, and believable sound stage.

They would be hard to rival...when a performance starts you can hear/sense the hall...you can hear a violin player's fingers touching the neck of his instrument from note to note...on large choral passages (Bach Mass) you can hear members of each section (basses, tenors, etc.) taking breaths. I have never heard this kind of detail. These are the ONLY dynamic headphones I have ever listened to where I feel I am AT a performance! Orchestral climaxes are again a real treat!!! These phones, though polite and accurate are not volume shy! They have a natural warmth in the high frequencies due to superb transient response and very low harmonic distortion (rated at .1%). (For a lesson in great harmonics try Yo Yo Ma's Soul of the Tango on these- unreal)! The sound is slightly away from or outside your head, thus making them sound more natural- but this does NOT take away from the you are there feeling. These phones are NOT bass shy and I find the bass very natural.

This company has a great reputation for carrying replacement parts for headphones too (like those ear cushions that are hard to find a year down the line)! Right now they will extend the 2 year warranty to 5 years free over the net!
I have spent 3 times the money looking for less expensive phones but these prove the old axiom buy the best and cry once. You can find these on the net for about $250.00 but when I heard them I said forget waiting!

They felt rather tight (the cushions snuggle in and fit behind the ear on my head) the first week but that is better now. The ear cushions are very plush and soft (and large in diameter) and I don't know how they would be if you are in a place where the temperature is high.
They are 300 ohms but are more efficient than the older 600 ohm models.

I have reviewed these using classical music references because that CAN be the most complex to interpret correctly and I have played in large orchestras but these phones sound great with vocals and jazz (finely articulated bass fiddle, piano, drums, etc) any kind of music I have tried. Be aware, however, if your source material is bad (noisy FM, etc.) you will really hear it. If you want your headphones to sound like a $3000 car stereo and are into rap and other music where 20Hz is constant these might do it but I would think you would want enclosed phones for that last 1/2 octave of bass. And note: these phones are open back phones so if you live where there is a lot of noise close by these might not do for you.
