Review of Scarface: The World Is Yours

Scarface: The World Is Yours for the PC is, in a way, the sequel to the movie. The game begins during the last fifteen minutes of the movie during which Tony Montana is fighting against the hit squad. The player immediately enters the game during this point of high adrenaline and action. But to the player’s shock Tony Montana does survive the attack contrary to what happens in the movie. Tony loses everything in this attack therefore the goal of the game is to rebuild Tony’s empire and get revenge on those who have tried to kill him.
The storyline is one of the game’s positive aspects. The story is definitely different from the movie but it still has the movie’s flow and impact. Fans of the movie will especially love the story because it is essentially the story from the movie. You have to start from the beginning and help Tony get from not having a dime to being one of the biggest drug lords in Miami. I liked the story because it has some of the classic scenes from the movie but it is a little bit different. I bought this game because of the storyline; I have heard that the story was good and full of the adrenaline from the movie. Although the story is interesting and grabs the player’s attention the game loses points when it comes up to the game play.
Game play wise the game begins to get really repetitive fast. The only time when it is interesting is when the player is shooting and blowing people up; luckily there are many action scenes where the player can enjoy shooting people in the face. But the repetitive part of the game is where the player has to buy cocaine from the dealers and sell it to his fronts. The player has to go through this process many times, to get enough money, in order to reach the next level. I expected the game to be interesting story wise and fun game play wise. Sadly I was disappointed with the game play. Also the game play affects the story by taking the player away from the story to go through the irritating process of buying and selling coke. Although it is new and interesting to have the players buy and sell coke. The creators should have limited the time players should go through this process and put in more action packed scenes. Also the controls are some what irritating in the sense that when the player is in a gun fight it is difficult to know where the he is being shot from. The interesting and fun portion the game play is the “balls” meter where the player receives portions of “balls” or adrenaline in other words, and after his “balls” meter is filled he can enter the blind rage mode where the player can mow down a dozen enemies in five seconds.
The graphics of the game are very crisp especially the water effects. The cars look nice and the drive like a dream; sadly there aren’t too many varieties of cars in the game unlike Grand Theft Auto. The guns and explosions look amazing and the characters look exactly as they look in the movie. The graphics are definitely one of the enjoyable aspects of the game that caught my attention. One of the reasons I bought the product was because of the graphics.
The voice acting is very impressive but sadly the fans of the movie will be disappointed to know that Al Pacino does not do the voice of Tony in the game. But the creators have someone who does a voice that is very close to that of Al Pacino’s. The fans will be happy to know that many of the famous quotes from the movie are in the game, but sadly the game over plays these quotes and it becomes annoying. Sadly I was disappointed at the music selection from the game. Unlike Grand Theft Auto there is a not that much variety in the music and after hearing the same song five to six times in an hour time span it begins to get really irritating.
Unfortunately the game wasn’t worth its price. The price should have been reduced by ten bucks. To the fans of the movie and players that have not seen the movie but are interested in the game I recommend this game as a rent. I personally was disappointed at the game play and music but at the same time I had fun. The game is decent and the fans of the movie would like it especially because of the story.
