Samsung SCH-u550 Cell Phone
Date of Review: Nov 1, 2009
The Bottom Line: This phone is not worth the headache it causes. You'll spend more time frustrated and angry than using it.
My experience with the U-550 has been nothing but problematic. I chose this phone because it looked sleek, small, and the price was right (free with contract). The cons on this phone far outweigh the one pro I can think of.
The only pro I can identify about this phone is the size. It’s quite thin and compact compared to other cell phones. It measures 3 ¾ inches (9.5cm) long, 2 inches (5 cm) wide and 5/8 of an inch (1.5 cm) thick. It easily fits in my pocket.
There are several cons about this phone. It freezes and needs to be restarted, the camera buttons use battery power quickly, and it doesn’t have a quality camera.
First, freezing is a big problem with this model phone. I am now on my 3rd replacement of this model after only one year. The first two phones would freeze any time I would change the volume at which time I’d have to pull out the battery because none of the keys were responsive and then restart the phone. This happened between 1-5 times per day. Now, on my 3rd phone of this model, I don’t have freezing issues, but there are other concerns.
Second, the camera buttons located on the front of the phone will often get activated and stay activated. This causes the battery to be used up quickly. I find myself having to charge my phone a lot—sometimes three times a day!
Third, this phone doesn’t have a quality camera. The camera is only a 1.3 megapixels. Most newer phones are 2.0 to 5.0 megapixels. Some pictures turn out blurry and the camera lens is easily scratched because it doesn’t have a shutter.
This phone has a lot of glitches or weird problems that I’ve never had to deal with in the 15+ other phones I’ve owned over the last ten years. I do not recommend this phone. As soon as my upgrade is available, this phone is gone!
