Author's Review
Close to the birth of our second child, my husband and I decided it was time to take the plunge into the current century and take advantage of all it has to offer! This was our first purchase of any digital camera/camcorder. We did some research, however all searches usually ended in frustration or confusion since there are so many options. We knew we wanted a digital camera AND camcorder so when we stumbled upon this model we were pleasantly surprised at it's overall function and quality. Although it seems somewhat pricey, the end result of buying the two items separate would've been comparable, if not higher than that of similar quality. The delivered digital photos are 4.13 megs which is rather high quality. I've taken hundreds of pictures and printed them on my photo printer and have been very pleased with the finished product. I also do not have the steadiest of hands, however, the video is returned with little shaking. My husband and I have been very pleased with the overall performance of this product.
My pros:
Light-weight, only have to carry one camera bag, decent battery life (comes with two batteries), battery charges quickly, excellent quality digital photos, easy to upload photos onto computer (if you have front USB on your PC tower), you do not have to be a professional photographer to capture high quality photos-camera does the work for you; easy-to-understand instructions
My cons:
Cannot take stills and video at the same time (obviously, but something to think about when you're single-handedly filming your wife having a baby, trying to take digital photos at the same time!) LCD screen is difficult to see in low-light to know what you are capturing. (might want to think about purchasing a light attachment since the unit only comes with a flash); Make sure and purchase the separate mini DV connector for your computer. We were told we had everything we needed and then got home and realized we could only download photos and not the video to our PC. You'll have no problem recording onto DVD/VHS, but in order to make video CDs on your PC, you'll need to purchase that connector and make sure you have a firewire connection. We have a brand new Dell and still did not have this connection, which ran us about $100 extra for the cable and card.
