Good for the price
Date of Review: Nov 6, 2008
The Bottom Line: Good product, but for the home I'd stay with a good ink jet which offers color as well as black ink.
I have used this printer for a couple of years. I had to replace the first one after a few months because the printer was always on draft mode and I couldn't get it to return to high quality.
The replacement printer (from Staples) has good crisp quality and goes on draft and off again as it should. I do have the occassional paper jam, but it is not frequent.
The printer is noisy, but quick. It takes a bit longer than the 10 seconds they advertise to get the first print out, but not too long. It's speed of output is good and hasn't slowed down.
The quantity output per cartridge is not as high as indicated (3000 pgs). Its more likely to be half of that.
I found the toner ink (I use a compatible cartridge at about 2/3 the cost of Samsung brand) is not as good as hoped. The print is good, but it flakes, or rubs off after time. It doesn't adhere to the paper as one would expect. I wonder if others have the same problem with laser toner inks?
Over all, for the price the printer is a good buy. but if you need records which are handled often and need to be kept for long terms, I'd be concerned over the ink problem just mentioned.
