A great home laser printer
Date of Review: Mar 11, 2007
The Bottom Line: Recommended for home office use. Be prepared for noise, and the sticker shot for toner.
I do a lot of couponing and rebating. A LOT. That includes doing a lot of printing from manufacturers' websites and couponing websites. That was taking an unexpected financial toll from replacing ink cartridges for our inkjet printer. My husband spotted this Samsung laser printer at a national chain store, and we picked it up. With a few reservations, we have been very happy.
First of all, you'll notice that the replacement toner cartridges are a lot more expensive than black and white ink cartridges (about $84). But even using an ink saver setting, you won't get as many prints as you will out of one toner cartridge. A cartridge will average 3,000 prints.
The printing is very fast, and the quality is always very good. We have used inexpensive paper, and have not seen a problem.
We have two computers, and this is networked to both of them. That works very well, also. I don't think this has a much bigger footprint than our inkjet printer, either, when you include the paper trays on each.
It's resolution is 1200 x 600 dpi, and it also has a 'Toner Saver' feature that will cut your toner usage up to 40%. You will need to provide your own printer cable.
My one complaint about this printer has to do with the noise. It is noisy when you first turn it on, and it is noisy every time it prints as well. It is so much noisier than our inkjet in fact, that I can't use it when my son is sleeping in the next room or it will wake him up.
Purchase this model during one of its frequent rebates for an even better deal.
