Author's Review
Ok, the question that everyone has first is does it beat NFS: Underground as the best street style racing game out there? That's a hell yeah. Here's why.
First, the quality of the graphics are great. Visual effects are very nice. NFS may have a better graphic effect on the cars, but the edge is very slim.
Second, the audio quality, the sound of the engines, tires spinning, and music selection are terrific.
Third, the driving dynamics are very real. Realism is what a driving game should be about. Each car is its own monster. You never know how it will ride after you've tuned it up. I have an '93 RX-7 that I suped up to 400+ hp and I can lose total control just by turning the wheel or tapping on the brakes. But the same car at 350hp is more stable to drive and race. This game isn't only about HP but also the balance of all the parts that you add onto the car. This compared to NFS is much better.
Fourth, real world realism is the winner here. If you've played NFS: Underground, you know that money, damage, respect, girls are not factors in the game. Sure you can win money, but you dont' lose it if you don't win a race. Well, guess what, in SRS, you do. If you wager $1000 against someone and you lose, you lose the money. If you damage your car, you have to spend money to repair it. There are respect challenges in the game. For crew meets, you must have enough respect points to move onto the next race. For the girls, ahh the girls, you must prove yourself to her so that you can hook up with her. It seems that you can have as many as 18 girlfriends. Once you prove your worth, you can go into your warehouse where she's "partying" and check her out via a dance video. She's a doing a pole dance without the pole, you know what I mean. That's a hoot, I laughed so hard when I first saw it.
Fifth, you can cruise the city like midnight madness. You cannot do so in NFS.
The only thing that I don't like about the game is probably the police officers and some of the surrounding. You can try running away from them but they appear infront of you and try to cause a head on collision with you. It would be simpler if they'd just try to spin you out or chase you but the head on collision really ruins the car.
I would definitely recommend this game for anyone that wants variety in the game play than a more straight forward design of NFS.
