Rowenta Focus DZ5080 Iron..
I started doing a bit more sewing in my free time and needed an iron which worked a bit better than my regular one. In addition, my daughter started using my old iron to melt her Perler beads and I couldnt trust it on my good fabrics anymore. I knew that Rowenta had a good name and that many other sewing people I know like their Rowenta irons.
I dont iron a lot of clothing I send most of it to the drycleaners, but when I am so inclined to actually iron, I want a better iron than the one I had been using.
Steamy hot
The Rowenta is made in Germany and has some really nice features it is a steam iron and amazingly there are over 400 tiny holes on the stainless steel ironing plate that allow the steam to come out perfectly! This makes getting out wrinkles or those deep creases from improperly ironing one side a piece of cake. It also has a steam burst button for those really wrinkled spots! I jumped a bit the first time I used that feature because it was a bit like special effects in a movie, but I must tell you that I am pleased with the performance of the iron in general, but also the steam burst feature.
Another great feature in regards to the steam of this iron is its ability to steam even while upright. This allows me to steam curtains while they are hanging. I did try this once just to see if it worked and I was pleasantly surprised at the results.
Some other features of the Rowenta
- Pointy tip: The stainless steel ironing plate of this one has a unique pointy tip which makes it easier to iron into those little crevices in my hubbys clothing or my kids smaller clothing.
- Self cleaning system so that any particles can be cleaned out of the iron before affecting your clothing.
- Good contour the iron is ergonomically easy to hold and use there is a comfort grip and the shape and size are perfect for me. It also is pretty lightweight compared to its size.
Safety feature -
I am notorious for leaving things on I am getting better these days, but it is comforting to know that my Rowenta has a good shut off system which will override me in case. There are three different ways in which it will shut off when not in use: 8 minutes after left in vertical (upright position), 30 seconds for horizontal, and 30 seconds for tipped over. I think this is a very smart feature and worth any extra I may have paid for this one.
Using the Rowenta..
As I said, I am not a heavy ironer, but I am excited whenever I have to iron because of this iron combined with the really heavy duty Rowenta ironing board. I have used it on all different fabrics and the settings are very steady. I get good results with anything I iron and it makes sewing pretty easy because the iron really flattens down the seams.
Overall
This Rowenta retails for between $80 and $100 and is well worth the money. I do not expect to have to buy another iron in my life unless it is for my kids. It is a heavy duty tool, but also glides effortlessly across my clothing or fabric. It is a far cry from some of the rusty irons I have used in yesteryears and highly recommend it if you are thinking about a new iron.
